Sleep

I have also realized the importance of sleep. Without enough, you can't properly function as a human, and for me too much does the same thing. On typical weekdays, I found myself getting an average of just about 6 hours of sleep. There were variations, with the longest night of sleep being 8 hours and the shortest night being 4 hours. However, on the weekends, I managed to catch up and get about 9 hours of sleep, with the shortest being 8 hours and the longest being 10 hours. I could feel that the lack of sleep during the week was catching up with me. It was the sleep debt I had built up. I observed that more sleep seemed to give me better energy to start my day. However, I also noticed that too much sleep left me feeling just as exhausted as getting too little sleep. I discovered that the sweet spot for me was 7 hours of sleep. When I got exactly this amount of sleep, I always woke up feeling invigorated and motivated. Anything more or less than that made it challenging for me to start my day. This was a new experience for me, as I had never tracked my sleep before. Through this process, I gained a better understanding of my body and its sleep requirements. I also came to realize the importance of sleep: both too little and too much negatively impacted my ability to function optimally. Which negatively impacted the rest of my life, whether it was school, friends, or family. So I believe that sleep is more important than anything, for it determines how those things go. Whether it'll be good, bad, or if you can even accomplish what the day throws at you. Lack of sleep will always entail something bad, if not on you, on someone else. For example in the textbook "Blueprint for Success in College and Career," talks about how an oil ship went aground and spilled 11 million gallons of oil. The accident was caused because the captain at the till was awake for 18 hours. This probably caused him to not pay full attention to avoid the accident. So sleep can be expensive and dangerous if you don't have it. I believe that if I fall asleep at exactly 11 pm every night and wake up at 6 am every day, I will be energized and ready to tackle the day's tasks. But I would need to switch my sleep schedule, because right now I'm falling asleep at 1 am and waking up at 7 am, on most days. The only thing I'll have to be is very consistent. If I can't do that then I won't get enough sleep, I won't have enough time to get ready and I won't be able to succeed in life. This new sleep schedule will allow me to establish a more consistent routine, which is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and achieving my goals. By ensuring that I get a good night's sleep and wake up early, I will have more time to prepare for the day ahead, leading to increased productivity and success in both my personal and professional life.
